Everyone carries their own life story, yet each of us holds a unique, primal twist deep within.
The light that keeps us warm reveals itself in a smile of forgiveness, a glance of understanding, a tear unashamed to roll down a cheek. It is the force that allows us to create, to love, and to grow.
Darkness feeds on doubt, greed, and pride. It whispers, tempts, and challenges us. It is the force through which we question, fear, and protect ourselves.
So where does the true twist lie?
A CHRONICLE OF COURAGE
In the hills of the Balkans, where mountains are reflected in copper stills and rakia is part of every gathering, a spirit was born powerful enough to tangle the threads of angels and devils alike. They called it Zaplet.
It came not from an ordinary plum, but from one said to grow on the border between light and darkness, virtue and temptation. The first drops were so clear that they could sharpen both mind and soul. When the first barrel was opened, two figures appeared above the still: Mare, the kindly guardian of restraint and reflection, and his age-old rival Žare, the mischievous master of laughter, rash midnight decisions and harmless trouble.
Mare wanted Zaplet to bring calm, humility and the warmth of the hearth. Žare wanted it to kindle fire, laughter, passion and songs that lasted until dawn.
Fate, however, had a sense of humour. Zaplet carried both of them within it: Mare and Žare, light and shadow.
Ever since, those who enjoy Zaplet in moderation become poets, philosophers and romantics. Those who overdo it awaken the little devil within — charming one moment, tiresome the next; capable of great affection and of holding on too tightly.
That is why, whenever a glass is raised, a whisper still seems to rise from the still: ‘Do not fear the dark, but never lose the light.’ Zaplet is more than a drink; it is a mirror. If you are gentle, it will bring out your warmth. If you are mischievous, it will set you free. And if you are a little of both, then you are truly part of the Zaplet story.

Just eight kilometres from central Belgrade, in Višnjica, stands the modern Cherry Hill distillery — a place where technology and tradition meet in balance. Here on the banks of the Danube, where the winds converge, up to 40,000 bottles of Zaplet rakia are produced each year. Our story begins with the heart.
THE FOUNDERS’
HISTORY AND MISSION
Behind the Cherry Hill distillery and the Zaplet brand is the Urošević family, the seventh generation to live and work in Višnjica on the banks of the Danube. Their vision grew from a deep respect for nature, family heritage and Serbian rakia — one of the most precious expressions of the country’s tradition, yet a spirit whose potential remains under-recognised at home and abroad.
Believing that rakia made from healthy, carefully selected fruit deserves a place among the world’s finest spirits, the family began turning its dream into reality in 2019. The result is one of Serbia’s most modern distilleries, created to preserve and advance the culture of rakia, raise standards of quality and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
Zaplet begins in our own orchards. Quince and apricot grow beside the distillery, while seven hectares of fertile land in Moravci, near Ljig, are planted with the native Crvena Ranka plum.
From orchard to bottle, every stage is guided by quality control, dedication and patience — without compromise.
Zaplet was not made overnight. For six years, the rakia was distilled with care and matured in oak barrels before being introduced in the autumn of 2025. Its first appearance brought a succession of awards and valuable recognition from experts, connoisseurs and lovers of fine spirits.
The founders’ vision lives on in a team united by the same values: dedication to quality, respect for tradition and the courage to keep pushing boundaries.
